Clemens earned his B.Sc. in Information Technology from TUHH (Technical University Hamburg-Harburg) in 2008. In 2012, he completed his M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at TUHH with a focus on microsystem technology and nanoelectronics. During a semester abroad at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, he took courses in semiconductor- and nanomaterials. For his master's thesis, Clemens explored post-process tuning of amorphous silicon in photonics waveguides.
He began his PhD research in the Photonics Laboratory at Chalmers University of Technology in 2012, focusing on photonics waveguides of non-stoichiometric silicon nitride. His research explored the effects of material composition on optical and mechanical properties, and he earned his doctoral degree in 2017.
In 2017, Clemens joined Ghent University-IMEC as a postdoctoral researcher, where he worked on reconfigurable optical networks within the SOI platform. This work was part of the European SPICE project, which aims to explore all-optical switching of magnetic memory cells.
Currently, Clemens is in charge of the laboratory and provides support to the team as a research engineer.
His interests include nanofabrication technologies, integrated nonlinear photonics, and digital electronics.Publications (13)International Journals
