Switching with coupled nonlinear cavitiesMain Researcher: Bjorn Maes
Microphotonic cavities have proven to be efficient nonlinear devices. However, by combining these resonators in circuits novel feedback dynamics can be exploited. The interference between two cavities for example may lead to very low power switching. In addition we are exploring so-called symmetry breaking bifurcations. These appear when a symmetric structure is excited in a symmetric way. Nonlinear feedback in these systems can result in asymmetric states, which offers the possibility of flip-flop operation.
