Abstract

We theoretically investigate the influence of square metallic gratings on the optical absorption of organic solar cells with a thin active layer. We show that excited localized surface plasmon modes may cause strong field enhancement at the interface between the grating and the active layer. This results in broadband absorption enhancement in the active layer. An enhancement of up to 29% has been observed.
